Every year, by December, we’re surrounded by messages that compel us all to think about New Year Resolutions. I must confess that for some time I also followed this silly trend. It’s interesting how we get carried away by the ridiculous notion that something will change from January 1st on, ‘just because we have made the resolutions’, as if thinking about them and writing them down would make acts we weren’t able to perform before, easy: quit smoking, be healthier or kinder to ourselves or others, spend more time with the family… and the list goes on.
The matter of the fact is that most of everything we ‘decide’ to do is utterly vague; this means it can easily be challenged, and turned into a failure. What do we do? We transfer these marvellous resolutions to the next year, in the naive certainty that ‘next year we will accomplish it’.
Let’s face it: change requires three things – concrete goals (I will eat sugar only twice a week instead of I will be healthier), inspiration – people we can look up to in order to see to believe -, and the ambition that lies in a dream, for this last one is the fuel of life.
This is what brought us to the idea of celebrating the beginning of a new year with an eleventh issue devoted to Dream, structured in a pretty different way. This edition is filled with women that made our previous year: they are warriors that have proven, in all kinds of fields, how a dream can come true if you build it by committing yourself to baby-efficient-steps.
Happy New Real year, everyone.
